Titanium bar is a high-performance material widely used in aerospace technology. Its most notable features are light weight, high strength, good toughness and corrosion resistance. As for making cars, titanium bar is the only metal material that has high strength, low density, excellent fatigue and corrosion resistance, and low elastic modulus, making it an ideal material for making cars. In addition, titanium bar is also widely used in medical equipment, chemical equipment, militaryand sports equipment (titanium golf clubs) materials. Due to the complex processing technology and expensive data, the main reasons for the higher product price are. Like many alloy metals, titanium alloy is also composed of titanium and some useful metal components to meet the requirements of data performance, but its main component is titanium, accounting for more than 90%.
During the grinding process, the high temperature rise at the interface between the metal and the grinding wheel causes high residual stress on the grinding surface, and the surface finish is not ideal.
The following methods can basically solve these difficulties of titanium bar processing:
(1) Choose a suitable grinding wheel, such as silicon carbide grinding wheel, with medium grain size (60~80), medium hardness (J~M), and surface speed of 700~1200m/min. Alumina (alumina powder or corundum) grinding wheel should use a lower speed, such as 550~600min. Medium granularity is also required.
(2) Use a lower grinding wheel speed and feed rate; due to the lower grinding wheel speed, fewer sparks are generated.
(3) Titanium sparks may catch fire when encountering oil mist, but the danger can be reduced by completely immersing the workpiece in the oil. Aqueous solution of rust preventive ammonium nitrite can completely eliminate the fire hazard.
(4) Cool with buffer fluid or cutting fluid coolant, and use ceramic binder and chlorinated or vulcanized cutting oil to obtain good results. No matter which coolant is used, it should be well filtered to eliminate "fishtail" stains caused by titanium particle recycling.
